Pilates Classes

Pilates is becoming more and more popular as a form of rehabilitation with core control strengthening being found as the only scientific way of reducing and preventing lower back pain.

APPI Pilates excels in encouraging the use of your core stabilising muscles to promote correct movement patterns. Pilates is becoming the forefront of rehabilitation for chronic conditions, such as osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and chronic lower back pain.

With these classes your mind and body will be challenged, your mind will become accustomed to improving posture whilst your body will be recruiting your deeper stabilising muscles. Muscle imbalances can be corrected by retraining muscle patterns through encouraging muscle recruitment and therefore improving body alignment.

Classes have no more than 12 people at a time with all equipment being provided. APPI Pilates is very clinical, due to the small numbers in the groups it allows time for tactile feedback and time with each participant to ensure that the exercises are being done correctly.

I currently hold classes at Clifton Village Village Hall and at Compound Strength and Fitness in Ruddington.

Matwork vs Standing/seated only Pilates

As the name suggests, matwork involves Clinical Pilates exercises done on a mat. In the matwork classes I teach the majority of the class on the mat however there are some aspects of standing as well. All the classes are different, just to keep you on your toes.

Standing/seated only classes does not involve any matwork exercises at all. I mainly set these classes up for people who struggle with getting up off the floor or are unable to stand for long periods of time. Do not be fooled thinking that this is an easier version of Clinical Pilates. This is still a very challenging class and will make you highly aware of your posture and help with functional movements.

Matwork - mixed ability. 7.45 pm - 8.45 pm at Compound Strength and Conditioning Gym in Ruddington.
Matwork - beginners. 9.30 am - 10.30 am Village Hall in Clifton Village.
Matwork - mixed ability 8 pm - 9 pm Village Hall in Clifton Village.
